Summer University opened for 400 participants from 13 countries
The ceremony took place at Bashir Rameev IT Park on 8 July.
The project is implemented by KFU with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Sociocenter.
The main goals of the project are popularization of Russian education, establishment of interpersonal, intercultural, interethnic communication between Russian and foreign students. This year 400 students from 13 countries of the world are taking part: Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, South Africa, Brazil, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and, of course, Russia.
Konstantin Mogilevskii, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia, opened the event. In his video message he welcomed the guests of the project, emphasizing that hundreds of cultures, languages and traditions are intertwined in our multiethnic country, “On the platform of the Summer University you will get acquainted with the culture of Russia, with the identity of different ethnic groups, exchange knowledge in various scientific fields, gain experience of interaction with industrial partners. I am sure that two weeks at the Summer University will lay a strong foundation for the future. Let the project become the first of many stages of your acquaintance with our country”.
Dmitrii Tayurskii, First Vice-Rector of KFU, noted the importance of the event for Kazan Federal University, “We are glad that Kazan Federal University is hosting such a large number of guests today. The university is the birthplace of organic chemistry and Russian Eastern studies. Today we celebrate 130 years since the birth of the outstanding physicist, Nobel laureate Pyotr Kapitsa. During the Second World War, he worked at Kazan University and did a great deal to ensure that the results of fundamental science served the victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War. No less glory is brought to Kazan University by its graduates and foreign students. The latter appeared at our university in 1977. Since then their number has increased not by times, but by orders of magnitude. Today 12 thousand foreign students from 100 countries are studying at Kazan Federal University.”
It should be noted that KFU ranks second in the Russian Federation by this indicator. The university pays great attention to students and youth science. The University has more than 150 student science clubs. One in four applications for a national competition of student entrepreneurship projects in Russia comes from KFU. Kazan University participates in all federal programs aimed at the development of universities in the country.
On behalf of the Government and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andrei Pominov welcomed the guests.

They represent more than 120 countries of the world. Our Republic is a crossroads of different cultures, religions, where 170 ethnicities live comfortably with each other in friendship and harmony. If you choose to study at one of the oldest and largest universities of our country – Kazan Federal University – it will be the right choice that will determine your future destiny, professional activity, will allow you to build a successful career,” the First Deputy Minister opined.
Sofya Galieva-Mustafina, First Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, welcomed the guests on behalf of Minister Rinat Sadykov. She said that the participants of the Summer University will see local young people ever growing and loving their province and their city.
Speaking about the importance of the Summer University project, Radik Vakhitov, Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in Kazan, listed the world-scale events that the capital of Tatarstan has successfully hosted in recent years.
Timirkhan Alishev, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, said that this year 400 out of 3,000 applications received by KFU were selected.
The opening was followed by a networking session and acquaintance. The program of the Summer University will be held in the following tracks: “Artificial Intelligence and Information Technologies Prompt-engineering”; “Technologies of the Future: Physics and Engineering”; “Language. Culture. Creativity”; “Architecture. Design. Urbanism”; “Business Analytics 5.0: Design and Development of Information Panels with Yandex Data Lens ” (in English); “BRICS+: New Trends in International Relations” (in English).
An innovation will be the track that is connected with the global event – the BRICS summit – BRICS+ model. Institute of International Relations, Institute of Psychology and Education, Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication, Institute of Physics, Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Systems Engineering, Institute of Computational Mathematics and Information Technologies, Institute of Management, Economics and Finance, Institute of Design and Spatial Arts have joined the project this year.
Dr Alishev added that in addition to the extensive educational program, the guests will get acquainted with the city and the Republic during sightseeing tours.
