Centenary of meteorology studies at Kazan University marked with lecture marathon

The event took place on 27 November.

1923 was the year when the Department of Geophysics, then responsible for meteorology studies, was established at a proposal by Professor V. A. Ulyanin. Program were then opened in meteorology, hydrology, and geomagnetic science.

Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies Svetlana Selivanovskaya informed, “During this marathon we congratulate the Department of Meteorology, Climatology and Atmosphere Ecology and listen to lectures offered by its employees.”

Video messages were sent by Research Supervisor of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand and President of the Russian Hydrometeorological Society Alexander Bedritsky.

The lectures were dedicated to climate projects, climate change, history of meteorology at KFU, and role of meteorology in sustainable regional development.

The Department is among the most in-demand by local media, and its employees are very keen on popularizing environmental awareness and climate knowledge in society, including careed advice to young people.
