Consul General of Turkmenistan Guich Garaev talked with compatriots

A meeting was organized by the International Office at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication on 14 February.

Among those who joined were Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev, Chairman of the Ethnocultural Autonomy of Turkmens in Tatarstan Khemra Rozyev, Deputy Director of the House of People’s Friendship of Tatarstan Rafil Akhmadullin, and others.

The Vice-Rector noted that KFU has the biggest representation of Turkmenistani students in Tatarstan with 4,500 persons.

“I want to personally thank the honorable Guich Garaev, Consul General of the Republic of Turkmenistan in Kazan, for his visit. It was mostly his initiative,” added Dr Alishev.

He then briefly outlined the questions of migration status and documentation and reminded the students to pay as much attention as possible to learning, “My big wish for you is to continue studying Russian. You enrolled in the university and passed your Russian exam, but it doesn’t mean that you have to stop here. If you feel you have problems with Russian, you have to go on improving it.”

Consul Garaev emphasized that the Consulate is always eager to help students, “The university where you are enrolled in is the leading institution in the region. I congratulate you – but also you have the responsibility to bear. You have to show and prove that you are here for good reason and that your parents don’t support you in vain. Each of you is a representative of Turkmenistan.”

He also reminded that the year 2024 is named the Year of the Thesaurus of the Mind of Magtumguly Pyragy. He was a prominent 18th century Turkmen poet and philosopher.

Mr Akhmadullin, who is also a KFU alumnus, spoke about the House of People’s Friendship and its events and opportunities for young people.

Lecturer of the Preparatory School for International Students Veronika Galiakberova presented a Russian speaking club.

The students then proceeded to ask questions, with the main points of interest being migration paperwork, dormitory stay, and employment.
