Department of Tatar Language and Literature celebrated 80th anniversary

An event was held at KFU’s UNICS Concert Hall.

Among the attendees Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Akhmetov, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Ildar Gilmutdinov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation Ravil Akhmetshin, as well as graduates, teachers and those who have worked in the department at different times.

Rector Lenar Safin addressed the guests of the event with a welcoming speech. He noted that Kazan University has been the cradle of Turkic studies in Russia since its establishment.

“It was here that research into the scientific foundations of the Tatar language began, a specialized department was opened, and in 1989, the Faculty of Tatar Philology, History and Eastern Languages ​​was created,” the Rector reminded. “Over the years, our specialists have made an invaluable contribution to the development of Tatar philological knowledge. And today they continue to demonstrate the high quality of fundamental and applied research.”

In conclusion, Lenar Safin expressed words of gratitude to veterans and students. He also presented the staff of the Higher School of National Culture and Education with a letter of commendation from the university.

Marat Akhmetov, in turn, conveyed gratitude from the Rais (Governor) of Tatarstan to the representatives of the university.

“The Higher School of National Culture and Education is doing a great job at the commission under the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan on the preservation and development of the Tatar language and native languages,” the vice-speaker emphasized. “Great things are being done here! When choosing your destiny, each of you was ready in your soul to give your life for your native language. We should all follow your example.”
