Higher education leadership meets with Governor of Tatarstan to present year’s results

Rais (Governor) Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized that in contemporary conditions the role of science and education is increasing exponentially. According to him, it is important not only to achieve technological leadership, but also to ensure the sovereignty of the country.

The Chairman of the Council of Rectors of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rector of Kazan University Lenar Safin, in turn, noted the progressive development of universities in Tatarstan this year.

“2024 has become a special year for all of us. Many have achieved important results. Kazan also successfully hosted the BRICS summit, where new measures of cooperation between the world’s leading scientific and educational centers were set. I am sure that this will have a positive impact on us. But, of course, the most important project for the development of higher education in the country remains the Priority 2030 initiative. Today, the Republic’s universities are already implementing a number of significant projects aimed at improving higher education, science, infrastructure, and much more,” he said.

According to the Rector, 2024 was also a successful year in terms of implementing the federal project of Advanced Engineering Schools. Here, Tatarstan is represented by five educational organizations: KFU, Technological University, Innopolis University, Technical University, and Higher School of Petroleum.

Separately, Lenar Safin focused on the university’s scientific developments that have practical application.

For example, KFU together with the company Izvarino Pharma work to create a full cycle of production of active pharmaceutical substances, which is a significant contribution to ensuring the country’s drug independence.

The Center for Liquid Hydrocarbons has developed a technology for forecasting large hydrocarbon deposits (both onshore and offshore), which is already successfully used in the Volga-Ural region and by Gazprom in Eastern Siberia. This technology allows for a 2-3-fold reduction in the time and cost of geological exploration.

Technological University has created a technology for producing monomers that are not available in Russia.

Technical University has launched new educational programs in microelectronics and additive manufacturing with industrial partners.

Medical University’s innovative drug and treatment of spinal cord injuries was among the winners of the Successful Patent 2024 national contest.

And Innopolis University has initiated the Physical and Mathematical Breakthrough project with the participation of KFU, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and other Russian universities.

In the final part of his speech, the Rector announced plans for the next year, emphasizing that the most important document for higher education will be the Strategy for the Development of Education for the Period up to 2036 with a Prospect up to 2040. The goal of this strategy is to create a modern and flexible educational system that will meet the needs of the country to achieve sovereignty and technological leadership.
