Kazan Federal University

1st International Legal Forum in Kazan

The forum’s original tagline, Право на право, is a wordplay using the identical spelling of the word ‘law’ and the word ‘right’, which makes it sound like ‘The Right to Law’ in English.

The opening ceremony on 29 September was visited by Presidential Envoy to the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court of Russia Mikhail Barshchevsky, Chairman of the State Council (Parliament) of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Taliya Khabrieva, Rector of Kazan Federal University Lenar Safin, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, and others.

The Rector noted in his opening speech, “It’s important to find new foundations for our internal and international rule of law. And we’d like to unite legal scholars, public authorities, and the legal community in proposing new ideas for pertinent problems. I’m convinced that this new forum at Kazan University will become a good tradition.”

Greetings were also extended by Farid Mukhametshin, Ilsur Metshin, Chief Federal Inspector in Tatarstan Viktor Demidov, and Chairman of the Court of Arbitration of the Volga District Denis Plotnikov.

Taliya Khabrieva, Mikhail Barshchevsky, and Chair of the Department of Civil Process of the Ural State University of Law Vladimir Yarkov delivered speeches at the plenary session.

The forum has attracted 400 contributors and takes up 29 and 30 September. Among the discussed topics are legal education, arbitration, entrepreneurship, bankruptcy, international law, and others. One of the panels, Theory and Practice of Constitutionalism in Contemporary World, is dedicated to the upcoming 30th anniversaries of the Constitution of Tatarstan (November 2022) and the Constitution of Russia (December 2023).
