Acting Rector Dmitry Tayursky: “Connectivity of territories is a notable element of a nation’s sustainability strategy”
Dr. Tayursky joined the 2nd Universities and Development of Geostrategic Territories of Russia Forum in Yakutsk on 10 – 13 June.
In his speech, the Acting Rector said that in light of recent global changes universities should double their efforts in developing geostrategic territories of Russia. The universities, he noted, have to rethink their role in connecting communities, businesses, and governments, “Federal universities make a significant contribution to the formation of territorial policy. And today we have gathered here to summarize the experience of our activities in the context of unconditional integration into the economic and social sphere of the corresponding federal district, as well as to find new effective solutions that could increase the role of federal universities in ensuring the country’s territorial connectivity as a whole. After all, it is no secret to anyone that the connectivity of territories is a much more significant element of the state’s sustainability strategy, and leading universities, having significant potential for the development of regions, can provide serious support in overcoming disparities in the socio-economic development of the territory of Russia.”
He also stressed that it is necessary to build relations with the regions on a mutually beneficial basis in a number of areas, implementing the ideology of comprehensive and efficient development and use of space, and the main emphasis should be placed on cooperation between universities and the real sector of the economy.
The forum brings together representatives of federal and regional authorities, business and scientific circles, heads of Russian regions, university rectors, experts in science and education, and young scientists. In addition to a number of meetings devoted to youth policy issues, big data research, information security, and the description of the languages of the peoples of Russia, the forum will sum up the results of the first federal competition for schoolchildren in the indigenous languages of Russia.
In addition, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Russian World of Asia” was held as part of the event, and a memorandum was signed on the creation of a Russian-Asian consortium of Arctic research. The consortium will become a mechanism for developing cooperation in the Arctic-Asia tandem.
