Center for Precision and Regenerative Medicine helps another patient with lymphedema

It has become the Center’s specialty.

A 49-year-old patient was hospitalized with edemas on both legs, abdomen, buttocks, and skin erosion with lymph flow. Other complications were tachycardia (110 – 130 beats per minute), hypertension (up to 200/100), and obesity (the patient’s weight was 160 kg, of which 60 kg were acquired in less than nine months).

She was given more than one diagnosis. The list included rhythm disturbance (permanent form of atrial fibrillation), cardiomyopathy of mixed genesis (arrhythmogenic + dysmetabolic) with a decrease in global myocardial contractility, hypertension, morbid obesity, and secondary stage 3 lymphedema.

In the first days of treatment there was a decrease in shortness of breath, improvement in well-being, complex physical anti-edematous therapy was started (without complications), coughing disappeared when walking, lymph flow stopped. The patient was able to climb to the first floor, move freely within the building, attend physiotherapy exercises, exercise on a simulator, fully sleep on her back, and lie on her stomach.

Head of the Lymphology Center Aygiz Feiskhanov notes, “Specifically, this patient had severe heart failure, arterial hypertension. In this regard, she was first prepared by a cardiologist, and the cardiovascular system was put in order. Only after that she was taken for treatment by lymphologists; the edema was removed, the skin was put in order, trophic ulcers healed. There is a positive trend – all this is under the control of a cardiologist and an endocrinologist-nutritionist – this is the result of our teamwork.”

In 28 days, the patient lost 28 kilograms, her blood pressure was normalized, and heart rate went down to normal 70 to 80 beats per minute. Adequate therapy of chronic heart failure is a necessary condition for successful and safe treatment of lymphedema.
