Kazan Federal University and University of Stavanger discuss ongoing work on hydrate technology

Their studies are supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Research Council of Norway.

Four reports were presented at a joint seminar by employees of the Laboratory of the Technology of Utilization and Storage of Greenhouse Gases.

Both Russia and Norway have significant offshore oil and gas extraction projects, and it’s crucial to provide technology for both extraction enhancement and environmental protection. The researchers think that new inhibitors of hydrate formation are very promising in this regard.

Junior Research Associate Yuliya Zaripova says, “We spoke about water-soluble polyurethanes as potential oilfield reagents with triple effect – as inhibitors of hydrate formation, corrosion, and salination. The Norwegian side presented their reagents based on polymaleates.

Importantly, such exchange helps test KFU’s proposals in Norway, and ideas of our Norwegian colleagues – in Kazan.

The sides agreed on further steps in their joint work.
