KFU now part of Synchrotron Radiation in Petroleum Technology Consortium
A thematic event took place in Novosibirsk, Russia, during the 10th International Forum on Technological Development (Technoprom-2023).
A KFU delegation comprises Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev, Deputy Director for Innovation of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies Vladislav Sudakov, and Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering Mikhail Varfolomeev.
The forum includes ten technological tracks, including IT, nuclear power, environment, aerospace, energy, petroleum, and others.
One of the key events was the consortium agreement signing. It contains Novosibirsk State University as the lead institution, with its partners being KFU, Gazpromneft NTC LLC, Boreskov Institute of Catalysis (Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences) and its Siberian Ring Photon Emitter, Institute of Nuclear Physics (Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Tomsk Polytechnic University, Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics (Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences), and Lavrentiev Institute of Hydrodynamics (Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences).
Vice-Rector Nurgaliev comments, “The goal of the consortium is to implement projects for the development of synchrotron radiation technologies to improve the efficiency of hydrocarbon production and processing. That is, we plan to use the SKIF synchrotron, currently under construction near Novosibirsk, to conduct experiments with reservoir and oil samples, perform calculations, and obtain new information that will allow us to develop technologies to increase oil production, including hard-to-recover oil from the Bazhenov formation. As part of the consortium, competence centers and laboratories for the use of synchrotron radiation will be created, international and all-Russian scientific and educational conferences, seminars, exhibitions will be held, software and equipment for scientific research will be developed.”
During the forum, which takes up 22 to 25 August, KFU delegates are joining over ten roundtables on petroleum industry and education.
KFU itself is a head institution in the Center for Liquid Hydrocarbons, which also includes three other partners. One of five strategic projects in KFU’s Priority 2030 program is Russia’s Energy Transition.
