KFU student among the most successful cyber athletes in Valorant

Sophomore student of the Faculty of Law Ayaz Akhmetshin has been included in Forbes Russia 30 under 30 rankings in the Sports and Cyber Sports category.

His team, Gambit, won VTC 2021: Masters – Berlin, and Akhmetshin received the best player award at the tournament. Gambit also finished second in Valorant Champions 2021. Akhmetshin is among the top ten earners in Valorant.

“I started gaming professionally at age 12,” comments he. “I wasn’t particularly successful in CS:GO and decided to try Valorant, which was released in 2020.”

Ayaz says that combining university studies and professional gaming is very complicated, but it’s equally important for him, “I train every day for 10 to 12 hours and try not to skip classes. So there is only about five hours to sleep. Our team has joined Champions Tour Stage 2: EMEA Challengers, which runs from 13 May to 27 June. We have played three matches and have two more.”

He notes that a cyber athlete needs to engage in physical training as well, otherwise long marathons in front of the screen will damage health, and you’ll have to forget about gaming for a while.

“I am often asked whether it’s worth quitting university for cyber sports. I always say that you need to receive proper education, no matter how hard it is. No one knows how long one can play professionally and how successfully. Everyone needs a profession,” concludes the interviewee.

Ayaz has 180 thousand followers on Twitter, 93 thousand on YouTube, and 388 thousand on Twitch.
