KFU student wins Pearl of the World pageant 2022 in Kazan

Daria Miron, a Moldovan national, was ahead of competitors from 13 countries.

The pageant was held by Ministry of Youth Affairs of Tatarstan, Committee of Youth and Children’s Affairs of the Municipal Administration of Kazan, Youth Assembly of Peoples of Tatarstan, Kazan Youth Center, and Association of International Students of Kazan. Over 40 young women from 15 countries applied to participate (only non-Russian nationals are allowed). The final consisted of three stages – self-introduction, cultural presentation, and runway walk.

The winner, Daria Miron, is currently in her sophomore year studying English and Spanish philology. She commented, “The capital of Tatarstan is a fast-growing city with unique culture and plenty of opportunities. The choice of a university was self-evident for me – KFU is among the best universities in the country.”

She found out about Pearl of the World last year when she was preparing a performance with her peers from SharQ, a KFU folk dance team. Moldova was represented in the pageant for the first time, so Daria was eager to showcase her nation’s history and culture.

Apart from self-presentation and runway walks, the participants also read their national poetry and spoke their countries’ culture. A number of master classes was held for them to assist in teambuilding.

“The evening brought many emotions, and it was really very exciting. I gave my all on the stage, and the audience was warmly accepting,” added Daria. “We spoke only English with some of the contestants, but it wasn’t a hindrance in forming friendly bonds. I really have never felt such joy and love. The pageant gave me unforgettable impressions. I was glad to share the victory with my family and friends.”
