KFU’s General Medicine program accredited by World Federation for Medical Education

The decision was made by the external expert commission of the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Ratings (IAAR).

Obtaining the certificate is also evidence of compliance with the criteria of standards for quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area.

“This accreditation expands the opportunities for academic mobility, confirms the guarantee of high quality education for applicants and employers. The program meets all international requirements,” comments Director of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology Andrei Kiyasov.

The assessment was carried out in nine categories: “Mission and results”, “Educational program”, “Evaluation of students”, “Students”, “Academic staff/teachers”, “Educational resources”, “Evaluation of the educational program”, “Management and administration”, “Continuous renewal”. During the visit, the expert committee conducted interviews with KFU and Institute leadership, department heads, faculty, students, graduates, and potential employers.

“Especially noted was the high level of material and equipment infrastructure of IFMB, which allows to provide quality training in the implementation of the educational program. It was also noted that the institute has implemented a policy that promotes the strengthening of the relationship between research and education,” shares Dr Kiyasov.

The program trains a new generation of medical doctors. Students are trained in clinical observation of patients, diagnosis of pathology and emergency conditions, provision of primary medical and sanitary care both in outpatient and inpatient hospital conditions and in emergency situations.

After passing the primary accreditation it is possible to get a job as a district general practitioner, medical prevention doctor, walk-in department specialists in public and private medical entities, including departments of emergency medicine and disasters and medical offices of big companies. Graduates can also continue their training in residency programs and work in the health care system in various narrow specializations.

The general medicine programs includes full-time training for 6 years. Within the admission campaign this year, 110 budget-sponsored places are provided for the program. There are currently 1,387 students enrolled in the program, of which 660 are foreign nationals studying mostly in English language.
