PhD student Ruslan Lukin named by President of Russia Vladimir Putin as one of 11 promising young scientists in AI

The mention happened during Sber’s AI Journey conference.

President Putin said, “Taking this opportunity, I would like to say a huge thank you to domestic researchers who not so long ago began their journey in science, but are already forming the technological potential of our country, including a number of young scientists I would like to note. Among them are Alexey Naumov and Sergey Samsonov from the Higher School of Economics, Vladislav Buzdin and Inna Minashina from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Denis Turdakov from the Institute for System Programming, Ruslan Lukin from the Innopolis University, Anna Kalyuzhnaya and Nikolay Nikitin from ITMO University, Ivan Oseledets from Skoltech, Semyon Budyonny from the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Elena Sokolova from the Sber Lab.”

Ruslan Lukin graduated from KFU and is currently in his 4th PhD course year in physical chemistry. His thesis is on organometallic chemistry and catalysis for the vulcanization of liquid silicone materials. He is also in charge of the Laboratory of AI Products for New Materials at Innopolis University. The Lab currently tackles two topics: geometric deep learning for the prediction of the properties of materials and molecules of drugs and language models for the structuring of information for the search of new target proteins.

His lecture during the AI Journey conference was titled ‘How geometric deep learning helps in drug design’. As for his mention in the President’s speech, he said, “I was a bit surprised when I heard the news. But I returned to work immediately – it was a busy day. Russia really has many talented people in this area.”
