PhD student Stanislav Kostin launches production of combined lip seals for heavy trucks

He is also employed as Lead Engineer at the Transmission Section of the local truck maker KAMAZ.

Kostin is one of the 18 winners of the Student Startup competition from KFU.

As a result of recent economic developments, KAMAZ ceased cooperation with some overseas suppliers of automobile parts. That’s why Kostin’s idea of enhanced lip seals became very pertinent for the company.

The main purpose of the lip seal is to prevent leakage of liquid from high pressure to low pressure areas and to protect parts from dirt and dust.

“The design of the combined lip seal consists of a rubber seal with a working edge integrated into a metal rigid rim. A polyurethane casing is installed at the end of the seal which protects the working area of the seal from the ingress of fine objects into it. The entire structure is rolled into a metal case for reliability,” comments Kostin. According to him, such construction is more durable and cost-effective in comparison with traditional ones.

Kostin has been working at KAMAZ since 2016; he was recruited for the company’s tuition assistance program during his senior year.
