Director of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication included in new Presidential Council on Russian Language and Indigenous Languages of Russia

Radif Zamaletdinov will be among those who make decisions in the implementation of state policies of language teaching and preservation.
The Council will develop initiatives on priority directions and mechanisms for preserving, developing and supporting the Russian language and languages of the peoples of Russia, promoting and strengthening the position of the Russian language in the world; assess the effectiveness of the programs implemented in this area. In addition, the Council will deal with the issue of ensuring the rights of Russian citizens to use these languages, the document says. Meetings of the body will be held at least once every six months.
The council, chaired by Adviser to the President of Russia Yelena Yampolskaya, includes 49 individuals – educators and scientists, arts personalities, representatives of state authorities and public organizations, including Sergei Stepashin, President of the Russian Book Union, Yevgenii Primakov, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, Maxim Dreval, Director General of Znanie (Russian Knowledge Society), actor Sergei Bezrukov, and others.
“I think that my inclusion in the new Council is first of all an appreciation of the role that Kazan Federal University has always played and is playing in the preservation and development of the Russian language and languages of the peoples of Russia. We are continuing and developing the traditions of our major philological schools, widely known not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders, such as Kazan linguistics school, Kazan Turkology school, and Kazan linguistics methodological school,” commented Radif Zamaletdinov on his appointment.
The Institute was a co-organizer of the 2nd International Forum on Russian Language and Literature as a Means of Forming Russian Identity and International Integration, dedicated to the 225th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin’s birth and the forthcoming 200th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy’s birth, as well as the upcoming 220th anniversary of Kazan Federal University (November 2024). It was joined by representatives of 24 countries, including Azerbaijan, China, France, India, Jordan, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Turkey, Vietnam, as well as scientists and educators from 80 cities of Russia.
On October 29-31, 2024, the University will organize the 5th Kazan International Linguistic Summit.
Since the establishment of the previous Presidential Council on Russian Language in 2014 Dr Zamaletdinov has been its permanent member, as well as a member of the Presidium. Two years ago he was entrusted with the leadership of the Center of Indigenous Languages and Cultures of the Peoples of Russia of the Russian Academy of Education.
“I understand perfectly well that joining the new Council is not only an honor, but also a great responsibility. I see my mission primarily in actively defending the interests of education in language learning, to maximize the successful preservation, effective development and promotion of the Russian language and languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation,” assured the KFU representative.
