Kazan Federal University

School in Laishevo District named after Academician Valentin Andreev

Valentin Andreev (1940 – 2015), Professor of the Department of Pedagogy, was a prominent psychologist and proponent of the theory of creative self-development.

Andreev was Chair of the Department of Pedagogy in 1985 – 2010. He was the key initiator of many conferences and forums on contemporary educational theories at Kazan University since 1987. In 2006, Andreev founded Education and Self-Development, a journal of pedagogical research. He also founded and headed a dissertation board in pedagogical science in 1991.

His daughter, Yulia Andreeva, Professor of the Department of TV Production and Digital Communications, says that Andreev was proud to be a graduate of a rural school in Bolshie Kabany, the one which will now bear his name.

Kazan Federal University now annually holds Andreev Readings, a conference on psychological aspects of creative activities in pedagogy. In 2023, the event was dedicated to concepts and technologies of personal self-development.

Interestingly, the school in Bolshie Kabany was once headed by Ivan Andreev, father of Valentin Andreev, and his mother and Ivan’s spouse Klavdiya Andreeva worked there as an elementary school teacher.

Valentin Andreev’s grandson, Ilya Andreev, is one of the winners of this year’s Student Startup competition. He is going to open a streaming media to cover youth and education news.
