Victory Banner hoisted over University’s Main Building

The tradition – which was initiated by Rector Lenar Safin – is aimed at preserving the historical memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
For the second year in a row the red banner is installed on the roof of the Main Building to commemorate the feats of war heroes.
The Great Victory was forged by the students and staff who fought for the Motherland in 1941-1945, and the activities of scientists working at the university during the war years were aimed at improving the country’s defense capability.
The Soviet Academy of Sciences was evacuated to Kazan. There were 33 scientific subdivisions (they included 2 thousand researchers), where 39 academicians, 44 corresponding members of the Academy of Sciences worked. Many of the arrived scientists lived and worked in the buildings of Kazan University. The university and the academy had one task – to help the front. All scientific discoveries had to be put into practice as quickly as possible.
During the Great Patriotic War, Kazan University did not stop teaching and research. During the war the University carried out about 300 scientific works.
