Kazan Federal University retains its position in the Priority 2030 strategic academic leadership program

The disbursement plans for next year were publicized last week by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. KFU is among the 48 recipients of the special grant.

There are two tracks in the leadership program – Territorial / Industrial Leadership and Research Leadership. Kazan University chose the former and entered the privileged company of 7 universities poised to receive full funding in 2023.

Rector Lenar Safin comments, “It’s a big success for the university which managed to achieve goals and implement tasks discussed last year, as well as to deeply transform policies and projects in light of new challenges facing our nation, our province, and our institution. New realities dictate that we conceive and put into practice those projects which can ensure our technological sovereignty. With that in mind, the system of our development management was supplemented with appropriate tools. Among our most important objectives are import substitution in medicine, pharmaceutics, oil production, petroleum chemistry, materials, and IT. We also intend to advance our research and publication activities, retain global presence, support our existing partnerships and establish new ones.”

KFU’s five strategic projects within Priority 2030 comprise the core of Tatarstan’s future economic ecosystem; the University is the main contractor in developing the Strategy of Scientific and Technological Development of Tatarstan.

As the main objective of the Territorial Leadership track, the institution must be constantly and deeply immersed in local realities. The Rector continues, “This last year helped us further concentrate on the projects ensuring territorial leadership and industrial leadership of our partner companies. Kazan University provides qualified professionals for all the major industries of the province.”

Overall, 129 Russian universities have joined the Priority 2030 program; 106 of them are receiving the basic grant of 100 million rubles a year. 8 universities are part of a special track for Russia’s Far East, and 15 universities are candidates.

Priority 2030 is the most significant university development program in Russia’s history. It was launched on 24 June 2021 and is scheduled for 10 years.
