2nd International Forum ‘Russia – Africa: Politics, Economics, History and Culture’
The event takes up 22 – 23 October.
This year’s forum has attracted 146 researchers from 25 countries – Morocco, Oman, Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Benin, Guinea, Angola, Zambia, Cameroon, Congo, Cote-d’Ivoire, Mali, Nigeria, Yemen, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Tunisia, France and Russia.
Among the topics of panels and workshops are African language, African culture studies, Russia-Africa ties, globalization in Africa, Africa’s relations with other regions, and more. 25 high schoolers partake in a special panel on language and culture in a multilingual and multireligious environment.
On 22 October, the contributors were greeted by Director of the Institute of Africa (Russian Academy of Sciences) Irina Abramova, Vice-Rector of KFU for Research Dmitry Tayursky, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Yevgeny Primakov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia Farit Mukhametshin, Ambassador-at Large of Russia Oleg Ozerov, and Director of the Institute of International Relations of KFU Ramil Khayrutdinov.
Notably, Kazan University has always been a point of attraction for African students. As of now, there are 483 students from 31 countries of the continent.
The forum also includes a presentation of a Russian-language scientific journal Arab Studies in Eurasia, an expo ‘Christianity, Islam and Judaism in Ethiopia’, and roundtables ‘Ethiopian collection: from a concept to a museum collection’ and ‘Questions of postcolonialism and neocolonialism’.
There will also be a student contest in Arabic language and Islamic culture.
