Africa Days celebrated at Kazan Federal University
The good tradition dates back to 2007.
The festival is always kicked off around May 25, the day when the Organization of African Unity was founded in 1963.
This year, the Africa Days comprised a number of events:
Africa Futsal Cup of Kazan on May 23;
Russia and Africa in the 21st Century Conference on May 25;
Gala Concert on June 1.
As usual, students organized a small expo in UNICS Culture and Sports Center. In particular, young people from Mozambique, Chad, Zambia and Côte d’Ivoire presented their cuisine, local arts and crafts.
The gala concert was visited by Counsellor to the Rector Linar Latypov, Head of International Office Olga Vershinina, and Honorary Consul of Namibia in Kazan Alexander Mezyaev.
“We celebrate Africa Days at KFU every year,” said Linar Latypov. “I was lucky to spend my military service days in Africa. Today, Russia is strengthening its ties with African countries. And the number of African students at KFU grows every year.”
At this moment, there are over 400 African students at our university.
The participants also watched video messages from KFU alumni in Africa and Deputy Head of the Board of Trustees of the Association of International Students of Russia, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Organization of Economic Cooperation Anicet Gabriel Kotchofa.
The concert itself contained performances in vocals, poetry, and runway walks in traditional clothes. Prizes and certificates to winners of the Africa Days events were given away.
