Counsellor to the Rector Riyaz Minzaripov named Honorary Professor of Kazan Federal University
The honor was bestowed during a meeting of the Academic Board on 17 December.
Prosecutor of the Republic of Tatarstan Ildus Nafikov, DIrector of the State Public Company for Road Safety Rifkat Minnikhanov, Minister of Youth Affairs of Tatarstan Timur Suleymanov and others were present to witness the solemn event.
While awarding the honor, Rector Ilshat Gafurov noted that Dr. Minzaripov’s whole life has been inextricably linked with KFU, “Possessing a huge organizational talent and professionalism, he has contributed immensely to the development of education and higher school in Tatarstan.” The Rector added that Riyaz Minzaripov has always been active in cooperating with public authorities, the community, and local businesses. A new position – Chief Counsellor of the University – was established for him starting December 2021.
Riyaz Minzaripov thanked the Academic Board for the honor. Notably, his merits in education have been commended with many awards and titles, including Honorary Worker of the Higher Education of Russia, Distinguished Worker of the Higher School of Russia, Laureate of the Russian Governmental Prize in Education, Letter of Appreciation from the President of Tatarstan, Order for Valiant Labor of Tatarstan, Order of Friendship of Tatarstan, and Golden Pin of Honor of the Ministry of Youth Affairs of Tatarstan.
Riyaz Minzaripov has been working at Kazan University since graduating from the Faculty of History and Philology in 1976. For many years, he was active in the Communist Youth Union (Komsomol). He defended his PhD thesis in sociology in 1985 and DSc thesis in 2008. He was vice-rector in charge of various duties from 2000 until 2021. Apart from his work in administration, Minzaripov is currently Chair of the Department of General and Ethnic Sociology.
