Foam-assisted oil recovery studied on Omani deposits
A joint publication saw light in Energy & Fuels.
The foam in this case is based on waterborne polyurethane. The resulting agent is feasible for use under high temperatures.
“The reagent is used to enhance extraction – when gas is pumped to a reservoir, it can break through permeable zones and lower the efficiency of extraction. The foam helps level out the displacement profile,” says co-author, Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering Mikhail Varfolomeev.
Oman is one of KFU’s partners in petroleum research. This paper was written together with Sultan Qaboos University.
