Heavy oil expert Jorge Ancheyta to cooperate in research with Kazan University
The guest from the Mexican Petroleum Institute visited on July 5.
The project is supported by the Russian Science Foundation.
“To be transported through pipelines, Russian heavy oils need a certain viscosity number. This can be achieved with the use of certain catalysts to improve hydration and cracking reactions,” commented Dr. Ancheyta.
He discussed prospective studies with Vice-Rector for Research Danis Nurgaliev, Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering Mikhail Varfolomeev, and Senior Research Associate of the Rheological and Thermochemical Research Lab Yuan Chengdong.
“We are starting a new project to research the mechanisms of catalyst activity for underground oil refining. The project lead, Jorge Ancheyta, is one of the top scientists in the world on the topic of catalysts. His books are used by many universities to teach the technology,” said Dr. Varfolomeev.
