Interim Rector Dmitry Tayursky: “The University is ready to promptly address the problems facing international students in light of recent events”

He met with international students on 4 March.

Dr. Tayursky noted that President of Russia comprehensively explained the reasons for the difficult decision which had to be made, “Russia was faced with the only viable alternative. Nowadays, there is a lot of contradictory information and fake news everywhere. We have to have full information and deep knowledge of history so as not to be limited only by the facts of today.”

The Interim Rector mentioned the unprecedented nature of the sanctions imposed by the Western nations on Russia and condemned the persecution of Russian citizens abroad, including that against some Russian students. He voiced deep concern for the safety of international students remaining in Ukraine.

Dmitry Tayursky said that Russian universities are staunch in their adherence to the principles of academic ethics and culture.

“International students are an especially vulnerable group of students. We understand that you are facing multiple challenges right now – far from your homeland and your closest people, without a clear picture of what could transpire next, whether there will be a chance to return home and have enough funds for subsistence. We have gathered here to discuss just that, and you can ask any questions,” said he.

The Interim Rector assured everyone that KFU will do everything in its power to support foreign nationals and address their difficulties with money transfers, accommodation, communication, etc.

“The quality of education must not suffer. Everyone must take their own responsibility. We have to continue our work on a highest level. The University has seen even more serious hardships. I am sure we can overcome this with honor,” he continued.

The students then proceeded to ask their questions, in particular, about accommodation, educational process, tuition fees, fake news, and other issues.
