Multimedia equipment donated to History Museum by alumni

Vitaly Fedorenko and Alexander Prosvirkin chose to make a gift to their alma mater.

KFU museums needed new equipment to create high-res photos and 3D models of storage units, digitization of manuscripts and books, scanning of film and sheet glass. Alexander Prosvirkin and Vitaly Fedorenko, students of Professor Yury Shtyrlin, heeded his advice and made this contribution, says Director of KFU Museums Svetlana Frolova.

The list comprises a photo camera, a film scanner, miscellaneous photo equipment, a laptop, and a 3D photo table.

Museum Curator Alikhan Gafarov has already started creating 3D models with this new setup,” adds Frolova.

The Museum collections include a large number of photo sheets and films. After digitization, they will fill the ranks of online collections. As Director Frolova notes, the enhancements of online presence is especially pertinent in light of the pandemic. Importantly, the Museum’s online tours are available at https://izi.travel/ru.

The digital lab will also serve as an internship tool for students, as well as for museum employees from Tatarstan.

Soon, KFU will also purchase a contactless scanner to digitize its existing herbaries. So far in Russia, only Moscow State University has shared its botanical riches on the web.

Svetlana Frolova concludes, “We are grateful to our benefactors. Such alumni don’t forget their alma mater and help museums be in sync with the times.”
