Andreev Readings open discussions about personal development

The Institute of Psychology and Education opened a two-day All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference with international participation “9th Andreev Readings: Modern Concepts and Technologies of Creative Self-Development of Personality”.

The event is dedicated to Valentin Andreev, Academician of the Russian Academy of Education, Professor of Kazan University, Distinguished Worker of Science of the Russian Federation, who is the founder of the scientific school of creative self-development of personality. The conference was included in the list of events timed to celebrate the 220th anniversary of Kazan University.

This year’s participants were representatives of Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, China – more than a hundred teachers and those who study pedagogical specialties at universities.

Opening the conference, Timirkhan Alishev, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, emphasized that the ideas which Valentin Andreev developed continue to live, “Valentin Ivanovich’s activity makes a great contribution to the long 220-year history of the university. It is on the shoulders of such giants that we stand – those who develop their themes and ideas in their works. I believe that the topics related to creative self-development are certainly reflected today not only in books and works, but also in administrative decisions and educational policy. You know very well that individual educational trajectories, individual educational routes of students within the framework of university education have been widely discussed recently.”

According to Aidar Kalimullin, Director of the Institute of Psychology and Education, Andreev and his students are to be credited for the fact that Kazan University has been occupying high positions in world rankings in education for several years.

“I am very glad that every year there are more and more young participants of the conference, including those from other countries, because his ideas, first of all about self-development of personality, in modern conditions acquire special relevance,” said he.

Leonid Popov, Professor of the Department of Clinical Psychology and Personality Psychology, emphasized the importance of the scientist’s works and the thoughts he expressed, and quoted some of them.

“Valentin Ivanovich writes, ‘Self-development is a way to improve our life space and improve ourselves’. He believed that this is the meaning of life”, L. Popov informed in particular and noted that this maxim speaks about the late scientist as a wise man.

Next, plenary speeches were delivered by Mikhail Shchelkunov, Director of the Institute of Social and Philosophical Sciences and Mass Communications, Rezida Dautova, Professor of the Department of TV Production and Digital Communications of the Higher School of Journalism, her colleague, Professor Yulia Andreeva, and others.

The latter, who also is Valentin Andreev’s daughter, informed, “After the plenary session, two round tables will be held. The first roundtable will be devoted to international cooperation. We will talk about how the problem of self-development of student and teacher personality can be presented in interdisciplinary and international projects. The focus of the second round table will be on methods of predicting and “tuning” education for human self-development in the situation of interaction with artificial intelligence. In addition, tomorrow students will present their startups and interesting projects at the conference. There will also be a master class, which will be held by me, it will be devoted to psychological adaptation to our information world.”

Her sibling Maxim Andreev, Professor of the Kazan Institute of Law of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, also is also contributing to the event.

Last year, a secondary school in Bolshie Kabany, Laishevo District, was renamed in honor of Valentin Andreev – he studied there as a child. Some proceedings of the conference are scheduled there for tomorrow.
