Aide to the Governor of Tatarstan and local academics tour KFU laboratories

They visited the Institute of Physics on 26 January.

Accompanied by First Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky, the guests familiarized themselves with the Laboratory of Synthesis and Analysis of Thin Film Systems, the Laboratory of Physics of Strongly Correlated Electronic Systems, and the Laboratory of Femtosecond Laser Spectroscopy.

The Vice-Rector informed, “The laboratories are part of the Center for Quantum Technologies and are mainly aimed at creating new materials that are interesting from the point of view of new technologies. First of all, it is all about quantum computers, post-silicon electronics, which replaces semiconductor systems. Here we synthesize and characterize samples. The equipment of the laboratories allows characterization of many systems, including biological ones. We have a full cycle of research in this area.”

Director of Kazan Physical-Technical Institute Sergey Khantimerov noted that he had visited the same labs just two weeks prior, “We have had a long and fruitful cooperation with the Institute of Physics in a number of areas. I wanted to personally see the equipment here, so a special tour was organized for me and my deputy for research two weeks ago.”

Dr Khantimerov added that his institution had recently purchases a new system for the testing of the physical properties of materials, “You have such a system here. We wanted to see how you organized everything and arrange something of sorts at our place. Your experienced employees offer some optimal solutions to us.”

KFU alumnus, Chair of the Department of General Physics of Kazan National Research Technological University Boris Timerkaev said that he frequents KFU, “Your laboratory equipment is a superior version of what we have at our department. We produce nano-layer coatings and other nanostructures. We are ready to collaborate with KFU in structural studies and studies of physical properties of materials. It’s only KFU which can maintain such equipment and demonstrate world-level research results.”

After the tour, Aide to the Rais (Governor) of Tatarstan Albert Gilmutdinov talked with the rectors.
