Kazan Federal University

KFU’s Jizzakh Branch celebrates first anniversary

The ceremony took place on 10 October 2022.

A year ago, the solemn event was, among others, visited by Governor of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Governor of Jizzakh Region Ergash Saliev.

“This is indeed a very significant event for the internationalization of the university. This is the first foreign branch of Kazan Federal University, and it was opened on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his homeland. This is a very important project for us in the context of relations between the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Tatarstan. Today, more than 600 students from Uzbekistan study at the branch, and its infrastructure is actively developing. In April, the Simulation Center for Medical Education was opened, and work is currently underway on the planned overhaul of the hospital, which was also transferred to our branch. That is, the University Clinic will soon appear in the branch, and we will be able to fully implement the model of medical personnel training practiced in Kazan Federal University. In addition, next year we will begin construction of a new educational building for the branch for 800 seats – a very important decision, which speaks of the importance that the Republic of Uzbekistan attaches to the opening of a branch of our university. There are many tasks, but I am sure the project has a great future, given that all parties are interested in the development of this branch and understand its importance. Jizzakh Region and the Governor personally provide great support. This is a great responsibility for Kazan University, and I think we will successfully solve these tasks together with our partners in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Government and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” comments Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev.

The branch offers programs in machine manufacturing, IT, economics, journalism, management, languages, medical biochemistry, general medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry.

“The opening of the first international branch of KFU in Uzbekistan is symbolic, as our countries have a tradition of long-term productive cooperation, and thanks to the KFU branch, young people will have an opportunity to get quality education without leaving their country. As of today, about 600 students are studying at the branch in 11 specializations. In the next academic year, we plan to increase the number of directions, and, accordingly, the number of applicants will increase,” says Branch Director Marat Umarov.
