Ministry of Science and Higher Education’s Student Media Center office opens at KFU’s Higher School of Journalism

The event took place on 28 September.

It featured Director of the Department of Information Policy and Comprehensive Security of the Ministry Andrey Tolmachyov, Head of Tatmedia Agency Aidar Salimgaraev, Vice-Rector of KFU for Comprehensive Security Rishat Guzeirov, Chief Editor of Idel magazine Ramziya Galimova, and Dean of the Higher School of Journalism Leonid Tolchinsky.

As a guest of honor, Mr Tolmachyov received a memorable gift from the University – a film slate.

“Guys, the most important thing is for you to realize that this project is designed for you. You are the main actors in this project. It is great that Kazan Federal University has a serious tradition of supporting student media. Now we are present at the opening of the regional platform, which will work for the entire region. The objectives of the regional platform are to help young people develop their professional competencies. There are editorial offices, there are channels, there are radio studios. There are just guys who creatively run social networks for their departments. For us, these guys are also representatives of student media. Those guys who write in their own youth language and spend their time to bring some information – useful, kind, good – to the young. At Kazan Federal University, the colleagues are very powerful,” he said.

Aidar Salimgaraev said that the youth is always a priority for local authorities, “Our main ally in this is the University. The Higher School of Journalism will serve as the main partner in this work. We’ll be seeking for new formats and projects of cooperation with students. It’s very appropriate that the Student Media Center finds its hom here.”

Vice-Rector Guzeirov welcomed everyone on behalf of Rector Lenar Safin and thanked the government agencies for their support, “Every institute has its own newspapers, chats, blogs, etc. After opening this new office, we have to involve all our departments, institutes, secondary schools and vocational schools.”
