First Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky meets PhD freshmen and hands out diplomas
The gathering was arranged at the Emperor Ballroom on 5 October.
Among the other participants were Vice-Rector for Biomedicine Andrey Kiyasov, Director of of the Institute of IT and Intelligent Systems Mikhail Abramsky, Director of the Institute of Physics Marat Gafurov, Director of the Institute of Environmental Sciences Svetlana Selivanovskaya, Dean of the Faculty of Law Lilia Bakulina, and other academics.
Vice-Rector Tayursky noted that KFU offers 108 PhD programs. He noted that the freshmen are going to be pursuing their degrees in the midst of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia – which intends to put ever more focus on domestic innovation and talent.
This year, 444 individuals enrolled in KFU’s PhD programs.
Concurrently, the Vice-Rector also gave away diplomas to PhD graduates, 17 of which have already defended their theses ahead of schedule and 5 more have set dates for their presentations. He and other colleagues congratulated the young scientists on starting their academic careers in earnest.
This year, 193 people graduated from PhD programs.
Among the graduates was chemist Mikhail Yagofarov, who set a record by presenting and defending his dissertation during his first year of PhD studies. He researches thermodynamic parameters of phase transitions of organic compounds. New computational approaches have been developed to determine the temperature dependences of the thermodynamic functions of evaporation, sublimation, and melting of organic nonelectrolytes with an accuracy comparable to the experimental one. On the materials of these studies, 40 articles have been published in scientific journals.
Assistant Lecturer of the Department of International and European Law Timur Gibadullin was also among the speedy writers, having received his degree in March 2023. His thesis was dedicated to the protection of cultural heritage in European countries and Russia.
