KFU to launch master’s program in pedagogical support for children with developmental disabilities in 2025

The program was developed by the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy of Special Education.
The Department recently created a special short course “Mom knows!” for parents of children with special learning needs. The course is supported by the Presidential Grants Fund of Russia. More than 140 people have completed training for free. Upon completion, the project team held sessions for parents, where they could ask questions and express suggestions for its improvement.
“During the conception of the course and meetings with students, the high demand for competencies in working with young children at risk of developing disabilities was confirmed not only among parents, but also among teachers working in this field. This confirmed the project team’s intention to open a master’s program, which allows organizing and implementing pedagogical support for young children at risk of developmental disorders,” Anna Akhmetzyanova, Chair of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy of Special Education, says.
The program is aimed at training specialists in early comprehensive assistance to infants and young children with disabilities and their families. Its relevance is due to the increase in the human resources potential of the educational system, as well as the creation of a system of psychological, pedagogical, medical, social assistance in all regions of Russia.
“Domestic and foreign experience shows that properly organized and timely comprehensive assistance to young children with developmental disorders can prevent the occurrence of secondary deviations in development, as well as ensure the maximum growth of the potential of each child,” Akhmetzyanova notes.
Key disciplines of the program are anatomical and physiological features of the development of infants and young children; neuropathology of young children; correctional pedagogy; special psychology; organization of work with a family raising a young child with disabilities, etc. The program is scheduled for 2 years of full-time studies.
