Russian language teachers from 59 countries receive advance training at KFU

The Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication with the support of the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (IATRLL) has launched a scientific and practical seminar on professional development for language teachers.

The seminar includes two tracks Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language to Adult Learners: General Proficiency and Russian as a Foreign Language for Special Purposes: Linguistics.

More than 520 teachers from 59 countries have registered for the seminar. The program is handled by the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication.

An important task set by Kazanian Russianists is to familiarize foreign teachers with the tools of digital teaching technologies. Besides, the participants of the seminars will learn to design their own author’s methods aimed at the development of communicative and speech skills in the lessons of Russian as a foreign language. Leading teachers of the department of Russian as a Foreign Language will present their developments, hold master classes, organize discussion of topical issues of teaching Russian as a foreign language.

“As you know, our university has rich traditions of teaching Russian in non-Russian audiences, which were laid as early as in the 19th century by the founders of the Kazan Linguistic School. Russian teachers from KFU have rich experience in teaching Russian to students from China, Uzbekistan, Germany, Turkey, Iran, Spain and many other countries, developing educational literature and educational content for digital platforms,” notes the program supervisor, Dean of the Higher School of Russian Philology and Culture Rezeda Mukhametshina.

The first day of the seminar was very fruitful: lectures, practical exercises, lively discussion of topical problems of teaching Russian. The work will last till July 5.

After the end of the seminar during the next two months (July-August) there will be scientific and methodological support/consultation of the trainees. The duration of the course is 72 hours (18 hours of face-to-face teaching included).

The organizers are confident that after the seminar Kazan Federal University will become closer for Russian teachers, and they will actively participate in scientific conferences and other events.
