Associate Professor Artur Khannanov among awardees of the Young Scientist of the Republic of Tatarstan 2023 ceremony

The event was organized at Kazan State Institute of Culture.

Artur Khannanov finished third in the Best Young Scientist in Natural Sciences nomination. The criteria are publications, mentorship and supervision, grant applications, R&D, and others.

“This emphasizes the need for the broad outlook of the modern scientist. Today you cannot and should not sit in a laboratory and just do research. It is necessary to constantly develop and expand your competencies,” comments the awardee.

Artur Khannanov’s path in science started during his sophomore year – that’s when he enrolled in a student science club at the Institute of Chemistry.

He currently works on magnetic materials for biological visualization with therapeutic properties. Khannanov opines that the classical definition of chemistry as the science about compounds and their transformations is now obsolete.

“Chemistry today is about creating new materials with targeted properties. That’s where my effort is directed as a researcher,” says the winner.

According to him, being stuck on one topic for a long time hinder one’s ability to detect mistakes, whereas participating in competitions and grant contests is a challenge and a good check of objectives and competencies.
