KFU students triumph in the III Student International Olympiad in Analytical Chemistry ‘Measurements in Quality Control of Products and Environmental Objects’

The Ministry of Education of Belarus and Belarusian State Technological University organized the Olympiad.
The Olympiad was dedicated to World Chemistry Day and World Metrology Day and consisted of three stages. The participants had to solve an experimental problem, make a presentation, and take a test. At each stage, the students’ knowledge of spectroscopic methods of analysis and metrology was tested.
The university team included sophomore students of chemistry: Bulat Gainutdinov, Karim Karimullin, Taisiya Lukash, Liya Khasanshina, and Mansur Khisamiev.
“Participating in such events before, we have never faced such tasks as recording a video clip or online testing. The most interesting, in my opinion, was the practical part, where for the experiment we brewed tea and conducted a lot of beautiful color reactions,” shared Lukash.
The young woman also admitted that the most difficult thing for the team was the test, as there was relatively little time allocated for a large number of questions. Liya Khasanshina added that the testing part involved both repeating the topics that the team had studied in the second year of the course as well as delving into some new aspects on their own.
According to Gainutdinov, the competition at the Olympiad was made up of students from specialized universities in Russia and Belarus.
“A lot of worthy works were presented. And only thanks to our deeper knowledge in the mentioned areas, ingenuity, and a drop of luck we managed to win,” the student said.
In addition to the absolute victory in the team competition, KFU students also distinguished themselves in the individual competition. Karim Karimullin took the first place, Liya Khasanshina followed, and Mansur Khisamiev was third.
“To prepare for the report and personal test it was necessary to study national standards related to the rules of measurement of indicators and safety requirements in the laboratory. Together with our teacher, Anna Gedmina, we repeated the concepts of metrological characteristics of measurements and consulted on other questions,” Karimullin said.
