University Clinic awarded as best in obstetrics and gynecology in the Volga Federal District

The award is bestowed by the Interdisciplinary Association of Reproductive Medicine Specialists (IARMS).

The University Clinic was commended as the best 3rd level gynecological inpatient hospital; Head of Gynecology Department Lilia Faizrakhmanova received the honor.

The best 2nd level obstetrics inpatient facility award went to the University Clinic’s maternity ward; its head Aleksei Mirolyubov was present.

The Clinic provides a full range of outpatient and inpatient care in gynecology and obstetrics with a special focus on organ-saving procedures.

“It’s been 20 years since we started applying embolization of uterine arteries in uterine myoma. The highest number of such interventions among the nearest provinces is performed at our Clinic,” comments Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Obstetrics and Gynecology Yelena Kurtasanova.

There is a special fertility treatment program for cancer patients.

“Our obstetrics ward has 50 beds, of which 15 are for the pregnant and 35 are for new mothers. We deliver about 2,000 babies a year. The 2nd level designation means that we work with low-risk and medium-risk pregnancies. We have separate rooms for new mothers and plan to open a single-person delivery room soon. Our ward is known for its homelike atmosphere,” added Mirolyubov.

Notably, the maternity ward building is the former House of the Kazan Community of Red Cross Sisters of Charity in the name of St. Catherine. It is at least more than 180 years old, because, according to the chronicles, it was rebuilt in 1850 by its then owner. It is also known that when the building of a local theater burned down in 1842, the actors were headquartered here until the opening of a stone theater in 1852.
