Rector Lenar Safin elected President of the Association of Asian Universities

His term is to take up to two years.
The voting took place today in Belokurikha as part of the International Educational Forum Altai-Asia – 2024: Eurasian Educational Space – New Challenges and Best Practices organized by Altai State University.
The Rector will succeed Rustam Khalmuradov, who headed the Association from 2022 to 2024.
The idea to create the Association of Asian Universities was born in Altai State University at the Asian Student Forum Education without Borders. Altai – Asia 2012 in June 2012.
To date, the organization has become one of the most dynamically developing international university associations. The first international internships for students, postgraduates and young scientists, the first joint educational programs based, first of all, on the successful experience of the existing international network university – Shanghai Cooperation Organization University – have been launched within the framework of the Association.
Important areas of joint scientific research include ecology and nature management, study of the religious landscape of Central Asia, ethno-cultural and national-confessional relations, social security and migration processes in the region, study and preservation of biological diversity, food security, development of protected natural areas.
To date, 97 universities from 8 countries (Armenia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan) are members of the Association. Universities of Afghanistan, Thailand, Malaysia, as well as 11 universities that applied to join the Association and were approved at the coordination meeting in Samarkand in September 2023 became observers.
