Rector Lenar Safin joins regular meeting of the Russian Union of Rectors

The main proceedings took place on 19 April.

The meeting was organized at Moscow State University and conducted by President of the Russian Union of Rectors, Rector of MSU Viktor Sadovnichy.

The rectors discussed the ongoing admission season and overseas branches of Russian universities. The Union pledges to support further expansion of overseas networks and international cooperation.

Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov presented the Ministry’s vision of necessary reforms in higher education. The three renovated levels will now be called basic, specialized, and aspirantura (PhD).

The basic level will correspond to the existing bachelor and specialist degrees and take up four to six years. The specialized level will comprise master degrees and take up one to two years. It will only be available after the basic level is completed. Aspirantura remains basically the same; everyone with at least five-year basic education or specialized degree will be eligible.

The Minister added that the reforms need to be discussed with the business community and employers.
