Rector Lenar Safin reports University’s 2022 developments to the State Council of Tatarstan

A traditional annual presentation was made by the Rector to the provincial parliament on 22 February.

Dr Safin paid special attention to Priority 2030, Russia’s academic leadership program. KFU partakes in the program and has retained its place among the best performers for two years in a row.

Despite obvious international constraints, the University managed to meet its KPIs in full. As for budgetary concerns, the institutional revenue grew by 1.2 billion rubles, and the ratio of non-public funding increased from 62% to 66%.

The Rector named key initiatives which will help KFU move forward with adequate pace. The University introduced programs in industrial design and opened an automotive engineering school with its longtime partner KAMAZ.

KFU opened 77 new laboratories as part of Priority 2030 and hired 755 employees. 196 intellectual property items were registered.

When asked about import-displacing developments, Dr Safin mentioned several prospective drugs tested by the University’s biomedical cluster. A software app was offered for ultrasound diagnostics; it helps improve the quality of obtained images to make more precise conclusions. The hydrocarbon cluster continues to develop new catalysts for various oil recovery conditions.

The Rector also mentioned that three technology parks are planned for opening – in industrial design, biomedicine, and automotive engineering.

Among other themes, Lenar Safin spoke about expanding the alma mater’s international cooperation and offering platform IT solutions in teaching, healthcare, and social studies.

The Rector mentioned that major dorm renovations for the older cluster of university dwelling, the so-called Student City, are long overdue. The University management hopes to receive additional funding from the provincial budget to complete the renovations in three years.
