Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences Danis Nurgaliev named Distinguished Worker of Science of Russia

The title is awarded by an executive order of the President of Russia.

The awardee says that the news was a surprise for him, “This is a commendation for mine and our team’s longstanding work. I am very grateful to my alma mater, where I have spent my whole life, and the people who have worked and are still working with me.”

The title of Distinguished Worker of Science is bestowed for highly valued research, personal achievements in science and technology, successful implementation of research results in production. The title is usually given after at least 20 years of research activity.

Danis Nurgaliev graduated with honors from Kazan University in 1978 with a diploma in geophysics. He has been continually employed by KFU since then. During his career, he was, in particular, Chair of the Department of Geophysical Prospecting and Vice-Rector for Research. Since 2020, Dr Nurgaliev has worked as Vice-Rector for Earth Sciences.

The laureate’s research interests concern magnetism, petrophysics, paleoclimatology, sedimentation, geographical information systems, oil and gas deposit formation, geodynamics of oil-bearing strata, geophysical methods in archeology, tidal modulation of geophysical fields, and much more.

For many years, Danis Nurgaliev has headed the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies. The Institute has become one of the national leaders in geological and hydrocarbon education and research.

In 2021, KFU was named the lead partner in the World-Class Research Center in Liquid Hydrocarbons, a special entity uniting Russia’s most competent hydrocarbon science institutions. Dr Nurgaliev is an active contributor to the Center’s activities.

Among the awardee’s titles are Distinguished Explorer of Resources of Russia (1999) and Distinguished Worker of Science of Tatarstan (2005).

In 2009, Nurgaliev was a co-recipient of the Tatarstan State Award in Science and Technology, and in 2018 – of the Russian Governmental Prize in Science and Technology.
