Kazan Federal University

First participants of KFU’s Lobachevsky Program receive certificates

The University was represented by First Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky, Deputy Director of the International Office Yana Evdokimova, Head of the Academic Mobility Unit Tatyana Khakimova, and Associate Professor of the Department of Physical Chemistry Timur Mukhametzyanov.

The program is aimed at attracting talented young scientific and pedagogical workers with relevant experience in foreign universities and research organizations to carry out scientific and educational activities for up to 12 months at KFU in the university’s priority areas.

It is being implemented within the framework of the Priority 2030 Strategic Academic Leadership Program, as well as with the support of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH).

At the meeting, the participants of the 2024 Lobachevsky Program spoke about getting to know KFU and conducting scientific research at the university. They were Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor at Shahid Beheshti University (Iran), Leading Researcher at the Research Laboratory of Computer Design of New Materials and Machine Learning at the Institute of Physics of KFU Hadi Mohammadi, Doctor of Natural Sciences (PhD), Professor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (China) Yevgeny Zhuravlyov, and PhD student at COMSATS University in Islamabad (Pakistan), COMSTECH fellow Sumaira.

“The Lobachevsky program was initiated jointly by Kazan University and COMSTECH,” said Dr Tayursky. “At the end of November 2023, at an Academic Board meeting we first announced this program. It was also widely announced during the Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum. And as a result, we received several applications from researchers from different countries to participate in this program. Three participants were selected. They represent different fields: physics, chemistry, and biology. They are united by the fact that they are ready to obtain new scientific results, new competencies, new knowledge at Kazan Federal University. And this is very important for us, since we mutually enrich ourselves, learn what our young colleagues from different countries can do, and they, in turn, learn about our research, about Kazan University and its great rector, the brilliant mathematician Nikolai Lobachevsky, and about Kazan.”

Dr Zhuravlyov conducted experimental research at the Laboratory of Ultrafast Calorimetry.

“Lobachevsky is an excellent program. I am engaged in the implementation of a new method of temperature modulation for fast scanning calorimetry at the Department of Physical Chemistry. I work with Timur Mukhametzyanov,” said he. “I spent a whole month here. I managed to confirm that the method works. In addition, contact was established between the management of Kazan University and the management of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology. I hope that we will continue to develop cooperation.”
