Rector Lenar Safin: “Opening a branch in Egypt is another step in fulfilling the University’s mission”

The delegation of Kazan Federal University headed by Rector Lenar Safin arrived in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

As part of the official visit, the Rector took part in the opening ceremony of the new 2024/25 academic year at the Cairo Branch.

Lenar Safin welcomed the teaching staff, students, guests of the event and noted that the opening of the second foreign branch is another step towards the realization of the main mission of Kazan University – to raise the quality of Russian education to a high level.

“We are honored to be among the first Russian universities to open a branch in one of the largest geopolitical centers of the world – the capital of Egypt. Kazan University is one of the oldest representatives of Russian higher education, the flagship of the national education system, whose priority at all times has been to ensure a high level of quality. That is why today we task ourselves with setting up a structure based on the Russian education system in all our foreign branches,” emphasized Dr Safin.

He added that this event is significant for the development of higher education and scientific research in Egypt, as well as for the promotion of the Russian language and in general for the strengthening of educational ties between the two countries.

The Cairo Branch opened doors in December 2023. The main partner in the project is Modern Group – an Egyptian conglomerate with interests in real estate and education.

Due to the extremely high demand for medical professionals in Egypt, the Branch is still recruiting students only for relevant majors such as general medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. To date, the Faculty of Medicine has about 400 sophomores and almost 1,000 freshmen.

However, according to Lenar Safin, in the near future the university plans to expand the range of English-language programs and open departments in IT and technology.

At the end of his speech, the Rector expressed his gratitude to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, the Russian Embassy in Cairo and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt for their support, and wished the students and teachers success in the new academic year.
