Turkmen spiritual leader and poet Magtumguly Pyragy’s works gifted to Turkmenistani delegation

Turkmenistan is going to celebrate Pyragy’s (1724 – 1782) 300th anniversary next year, and scientsits from the Central Asian country asked Kazanian colleagues to hand over Pyragy’s poems written by another legendary literary figure, Misgin Gylyc (1845 – 1905).

President of Kazan Federal University Riyaz Minzaripov personally transferred the manuscript copies to Deputy Minister of Education of Turkmenistan Alexander Amanov. Library workers, Deputy Director Elmira Amerkhanova and Chief of the Section of Manuscripts and Rare Books Endje Sabirova.

As Ms Amerkhanova explained, the manuscript was completed in 1909. In 1982, it was donated from Almaty, Kazakh Soviet Republic, to Kazan by linguist Jamilya Karmysheva.

“Turkic manuscripts often travelled across a vast region, so Magtumguly’s poems or those dedicated to him were copied in various collections. In this case, we see several fragments, and one of them is dedicated particularly to Magtumguly, as Turkmenistani scientists detected,” said the Deputy Director.

The bulk of the manuscript comprises the history of Altata, a Tatar village in contemporary Saratov Oblast.

Deputy Minister Amanov had words of imnense gratitude for the gift.
