International Student Week starts at KFU
An opening ceremony was held on Monday, 13 February.
The event was headlined by Vice-Rector Timirkhan Alishev; also present were Director of the International Office Olga Vershinina, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Relations Albina Imamutidnova, and others.
Vice-Rector Alishev addressed the audience and talked about KFU’s state of affairs in regard to international enrolment. He said that over 11 thousand of the 21 thousand international students in Tatarstan study at Kazan Federal University. “Not only do international students live here and get acquainted with Russian culture, but Russian students likewise have the opportunity to get enriched with international experience,” said the Vice-Rector.

KFU pays much attention to creating a favorable environment for overseas nationals and adapting them to local life. The University’s International Friendship Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. “This is the first time we are conducting the International Student Week within these walls. We are grateful to the Institute of International Relations for this initiative. And I suggest that other institutes pick this up,” concluded Alishev.
Currently, the Institute of International Relations alone has over 1,000 international students from more than 50 countries. They are active in studies and extracurricular activities, such as SHARQ, an ethnic dance collective where the majority of performers are overseas young people.

Aslam Hannan, KFU’s Best International Student of 2022, said in his greeting, “I am pleased to be a part of this big event. Studying at KFU has really opened new opportunities, projects and experience for me.” He also touched on the activities of the International Friendship Club.
