Rector Lenar Safin discusses Islamic cultural heritage with Chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Tatarstan Kamil Samigullin

The meeting took place on 13 October.

The other participants were Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Directorate Rishat Khamidullin, Director of the Institute of International Relations Ramil Khayrutdinov, and Deputy Director of the Lobachevsky Library Elmira Amerkhanova.

The University and SDM have long been cooperating in preserving gems of Muslim cultural heritage stored at KFU. In the past five years, the sides have undertaken huge work in finding, digitizing and publishing various works by Tatar theologians and social thinkers. Many of them are available at their respective websites.

KFU and SDM now plan to sign a new agreement and to widen the scope of collaboration – including TV shows. Rector Safin also invited Mufti Samigullin to read public lectures to students and employees.

During the meeting, the Rector handed over copies of manuscripts by prominent Tatar religious and social scholar Galimjan Barudi for them to be exhibited at Muhammadia Madrasah, one of Tatarstan’s leading Islamic schools. Barudi founded the madrasah in 1883 and taught there.
