Chair of the Department of Petroleum Engineering now part of Presidential Council on Science and Education of Russia

Dr Mikhail Vafrolomeev has been included in the new roster of 46 people this week.
The new inductee was born in 1982. In 2007, he defended a PhD thesis in physical chemistry. Apart from his work at the helm of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Varfolomeev is active as one of the researchers of KFU’s World-Class Research Center in Liquid Hydrocarbons, being employed as Lead Research Associate of the Laboratory of Hydrate Technologies of Utilization and Storage of Greenhouse Gases and the Laboratory of Enhanced Oil Recovery.
The new councilman comments, “It’s a sign of great trust from President Vladimir Putin and those who supported my candidacy. I will act on that trust to the best of my ability. Of course, the decision was influenced by research results at Kazan University under the guidance of my mentors and by my membership at the Coordinating Council of Youth Affairs in Education and Science of the Presidential Council.”
Varfolomeev specializes in enhanced oil extraction, thermodynamics, calorimetry, in-situ combustion, catalysis, heavy oils, gas hydrates, and oilfield chemistry.
He has authored over 450 papers and has co-registered 20 patents. Dr Varfolomeev has been part of over 100 research and oilfield testing projects for local and overseas clients. He is a member of editorial boards of 4 journals and partakes in the Group of Thermodynamics and Transport Properties of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering.
