KFU launches Summer University 2026
The opening ceremony was held at the KFU UNICS Complex on 6 July.
The event is organized by Kazan Federal University with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and Sociocenter.
A wide range of partners are involved in the management of Summer University – major enterprises and government institutions like the Ministry of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Academy of Youth Diplomacy, the Russian Knowledge Society, the National Art Gallery of Tatarstan, the Tatar Academic Theater, the Institute of Urban Development of Kazan, the IT Park, and others. The key partner of Summer University this year is Rosatom, which will hold an event for participants at KFU for the first time.
The opening was attended by Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan Ruslan Semyonov, Chairman of the Academy of Youth Diplomacy Dilbar Sadykova, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of Kazan University Timirkhan Alishev, directors of KFU institutes, and other officials.
The event was launched by Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov. His address was read aloud from the stage.
More than 20 educational programs in Russian and English are planned for participants. These include artificial intelligence, sustainable development, innovations in tourism, mining and metallurgy, nuclear energy, and others. Over the course of two weeks, the guests are going to have an intensive educational program, work on real-world cases from Russian high-technology companies, and explore Russia in all its diversity.
This year, 330 students from 25 countries are taking part in the project. The geographic reach of this season’s participants includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Abkhazia, Transnistria, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, India, China, Morocco, Mongolia, Oman, Chile, Vietnam, Malaysia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tajikistan, Sudan, Peru, Zimbabwe, and Russia (the latter represented by 100 participants).
Vice-Rector Timirkhan Alishev highlighted the significance of the event for the university. He noted that this year more than 3,000 applications were received.
“This year we have quite remarkable geographic diversity – something we have never seen before. The participants are highly motivated; they are all undergraduate students who are considering entering a master’s programme. Our goal is to show them Kazan Federal University so that they can make an informed decision. The phenomenon of Summer University lies in the fact that our founders, and above all the students themselves, provide feedback and consider the project a success. Many maintain their connection with our university. We already have master’s graduates who enrolled with us after the very first Summer University,” he emphasized.
The primary goal of the project is to promote Russia’s education system and to foster interpersonal, interethnic, and intercultural communication between Russian and international students.
As a reminder, the Summer University programme will run along the following tracks: Russia Opens Its Doors; Software Engineering: Data, AI, Digital Products; “Business Analytics 5.1: From Data to Management Decisions; Astronomy and Astrophysics: From Elementary Particles to the Structure of the Universe; Hybrid Environment: Architecture, Design and Technology; and The Evolution of Life: From Survival to Adaptation.
The following institutes have joined the project: the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication, the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Management, Economics and Finance, the Institute of Design and Spatial Arts, the Institute of Information Technology and Intelligent Systems, and the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology.
The federal project Summer University is organized at the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia and aims to promote Russian education abroad, foster interpersonal, intercultural and interethnic communication, and develop ties between countries and between Russian and international students. The project was first implemented in 2021. KFU joined the project in 2023.
