Kazan Federal University

University toured by Kazakhstani delegation

The team was headed by Governor of Abai Oblast Nurlan Urankhaev, who also met Rector Lenar Safin today.

Among the guests were public officials and parliamentarians of Abai Oblast and rectors of Alikhan Bokeikhan University, Semey Medical University, and Semey Shakarim University.

After a tour of the History Museum, the visitors listened to a presentation by Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev. He commented, “We talked about the prospects of cooperation development. Tatarstan is actively cooperating with Kazakhstan, and KFU is actively working with Kazakhstani universities. More than 27 agreements have already been signed, of which about 22 are with universities with which we have network educational programs or student exchange. About 430 citizens of Kazakhstan are studying at Kazan University today; they are very talented, disciplined and know Russian well. We are interested in attracting as many students from Kazakhstan as possible. There are about 15 students from the Abai Oblast.”

Among other things, the guests were shown a unique manuscript – the only known copy of the Arabic-language Common Law Code of Kazakhs (1886), now stored at KFU’s Lobachevsky Library. One of the code’s writers was Ibragim Kunanbaev, whose pseudonym, Abai, lent itself to the new province in Kazakhstan’s 2022 territorial reform.
